Chanel Metiers d'Art Scotland.

                                         CHANEL METIERS D'ART SCOTLAND.

If you have not already read my last article about the Scotland Chanel show Metiers d'Art then look at the piece i wrote in November 2012, it contains the hype before this spectacular event took place.

Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel, Metiers d'Art surpassed the Great Expectations.

If you want to see the after show party or actual event then stay right here.

The most sought after ticket & invitation to Chanel Metiers d'Art.

The date is the 4th, the Month is December and the year is 2012.
04/12/12. It is a day when the world of fashion came to scotland and in particular a place named Linlithgow which is close to Edinburgh, which is Scotland's capital city.

Linlithgow Palace where the Karl Lagerfeld Chanel Metiers d'Art is being shown was the birth place of Mary Queen of Scot's. The Scottish Queen.
Congratulations to Karl Lagerfeld on a well executed show, a fine fashion experience, most atmospheric.

I have discussed in my last Chanel blog about the run up to the Karl Lagerfeld Chanel Metiers d'Art collection show 2012. If you wish to read the history of the show venue which is Linlithgow Palace and other topics which surround this special occasion then please see my blogspot which i was being the blogger doing the blogging. Oh Blog blog blog blog blog.

In this my latest news blog of fashion retail Chanel, brand and label of much envy, with clothing and clothes and clobber some say to die for, i will show you what i can of the live Scottish Chanel Metiers d'Art show collection. I will show the latest pictures and photographs from the Scottish, Linlithgow Palace Chanel event and give an account of the clothes on show at this spectacular extravaganza of fashion for the dedicated follower of fashion.

As you may well be aware the Metiers d'Art collection is more than just a clothes show, the way it operates is with various craftsmen who are specialists in a certain specific field of work, which Karl Lagerfeld amongst other people have credited them with, for having the unique skill which they so clearly possess, and able to perform their art work skills to share with others, like at such events as Chanel's Metiers d'Art, with Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld pilot of the helm.

The Métiers d'Art show has honored the creativity and craftsmanship of the houses ;
Lesage, Desrues, Lemarié, Michel, Massaro, Goossens, Guillet, Causse and Montex since 2002. Each one is a Chanel subsidiary acquired since 1984, and the highly specialized workshops each hand craft a particular element, from embroidery, lace and leatherworking to feather detailing. In 2012, the nine existing Chanel workshops welcomed a tenth, cashmere expert Barrie Knitwear, a workshop nestled into the majestic country lands of Scotland for over 140 years.

Paraffection S.A. is a subsidiary company of Chanel founded and established in 1997 to preserve and promote the heritage, craft and manufacturing skills of fashion artisan workshops. The specialist workshops continue to be independent and are therefore free to supply and collaborate with other houses. Dominique Barbiery was appointed Director of Paraffection in 2009.
In 1984 Chanel acquired the costume jewellery and button maker Desrues, and later the ateliers of Michel and Lemarié. Paraffection (which literally translates as 'for the love of') was officially launched in 2002 with the acquisition of embroidery house Lesage and shoemaker Massaro. The establishment of the Métiers d’Arts collections showcases the work of the seven ateliers which made up Paraffection at that time and had collaborated with Chanel for decades.
Nowadays the Metiers d'Art collection showcases the workmanship of the ten ateliers that now make up Paraffection and present collaborations with Chanel.

As of 2012, Paraffection has acquired ten Ateliers d’Art or workshops:
  • Desrues - ornamentation and buttons (established 1929, acquired by Chanel in 1984)
  • Michel - milliner (established 1936, acquired by Paraffection in 1996)
  • Lemarié - feathers and camellias (established 1880, acquired 1996)
  • Lesage - embroidery (established 1868, acquired 2002)
  • Massaro - shoemaker (established 1947, acquired 2002)
  • Goossens - gold and silversmith (established in the 1950s, acquired 2005)
  • Guillet - maker of fabric flowers (established 1869, acquired 2006)
  • Montex - embroidery (established 1939, acquired 2011)
  • Causse - glovemaker (established 1892, acquired 2012)
  • Barrie - a Scottish knitwear manufacturer (established in the 1870s, acquired 2012)

How do you know that you are in Scotland ?

Well apart from the obvious, beautiful scenery, bagpipe noise, pipers piping, and tartan. There might be a loch nearby which for some is a lake, though mostly lochs in Scotland.
Oh yes, the food, well of course haggis, shortbread, tablet and whisky.
So there you have it now you will know if you are actually in Scotland, if in any doubt then you could always dream about a most serene place and you'll nearly be there.

With such phrases as ; Och aye the noo Jimmy, and, awaa an bile yer heed, and of course bonnie lassies, you know that Scotland is where the Freedom and not the Feemdom roam, although nowadays the female of the species has been liberated. The men wear the skirts or kilt as more locally known.

Anyway it has been the great idea of the Creative Designer at Chanel, that is Karl Lagerfeld to take the Metiers d'Art show to stage in Scotland.

Tartan, Tweed, Wool, Cashmere & a few surprizes on the way, the runway that is!
Chanel Paris Edinburgh or it might be Chanel Paris Edinbourg, ah the French. They are from France.

There are rumours that the cost of this extravagant extravaganza is in the millions, some sources say upto £2million , and that could well be believed on seeing the elaborate affair.

Tonight it is Fire & Ice at Chanel. It is Scotland after all.

So, Karl Lagerfeld brought the Metiers d'Art Chanel Show Collection to Scotland.
Before we begin, Thank You, Karl Lagerfeld.

Linlithgow Palace in West Lothian near Edinburgh in Scotland was the location for the actual show, the palace has it's fair share of history, as does chanel, so it does seem a most fitting venue for such a high profile fashion exhibition show as The Metiers d'Art. .

The Metiers d'Art collection show was held on the evening of the 4th of december 2012.

Who put the Tart-in Tartan ?
Let's put the Tart in Tartan.

Did Karl Lagerfeld Creative Designer for Chanel put anyone in Tartan ?

The picture below is of some of the preview cards for the Chanel Metiers d'Art show in Scotland.

On arrival at the Chanel Metier d'Art show collection you receive a welcome warm drink of Ginger & Whisky, a take on the Scottish familiar hot toddie.
The Chanel Paris Edinbourg setting is stricking, as not only the actual place of Linlithgow Palace, but the set which has been put together by the show organisers with the help of different aids, such as the ambient mood set by the candle light and fires of the fire buckets which raged inferno, the event looks so romantic, yet it takes you back in time, to when the castle was in it's prime, it had a roof, it wasn't roofless, although it is historically amazing.
The atmosphere was terrific.
Some what Magical.

The following photograph shows the seating inside the event being held at Linlithgow Palace.
In the photo is the seating which was pew like wooden bench type, for the lucky audience who will be attending the Chanel Metiers d'Art collection show.
Chanel has supplied guests who attend with a comfortable cushion for your seat and inside the cushion if you open it is a Chanel blanket, wonderful for those outdoor times when there is a chill in the air.
Attention to detail.

A blanket was issued to each guest of the Chanel Metiers d'Art show, no not a tartan rug type blanket, but a Chanel blanket to keep you nice and toasty, since the Scottish weather is a bit on the cool side. It has been snowing and there is a covering of real white snow and the temperature is mighty cold, freezing, in fact the actual temperature is minus 3, yes, that's -3, water would freeze if poured from a container, so just add whisky saves the frostbite and being frozen.
Warmer now.

The Chanel Metiers d'Art show collection Paris-Edinbourg.
Essentially this is a pre-fall fashion collection shown once a year in a specially selected part of the world and celebrates the craftmanship of the small atelier.
The ateliers involved with the Chanel event play a major role in it's execution, most unique.

And so the show begins.

Stella Tennant is the first face model on the runway / catwalk for the opening of the Chanel Metiers d'Art Collection Show 2012.
Stella done a great job to open the show.

Cara Delevinge looking cool, haha, Scotland weather.

Watch out for the Haggis, it has been known that in severe cold weather they will often attack, and if given the chance, eat small childen.
Even if you are Karl Lagerfeld's Godson.
Keep hold of that hand.

Well done Karl.

The Chanel Metiers d'Art collection show was certainly spectacular, although every word such as fantastic, exceptional, splendid, sumptious, extraordinary, incredible, fabulous, exciting, awe inspiring, exquisite, luxurious, could be used to describe the event, but the phrase, words cannot express the feeling and emotion experienced at such a profound occassion, it adds some more feeling and dimension to the Chanel show, but you know the situation where words just cannot express the actual happening like a picture may not capture the spectacle of the occasion quite how it was experienced in person
You Had To Be There.
Feel the Love.
Feel Privileged.

The show had a Macbeth, Macduff vibe going on with the feel of medieval.
The show setting lent itself easily to the task of which it was used, as originally intended and used by the people of these lands many years ago, and Karl Lagerfeld put the spectacular venue to good use.

There was no doubt when seeing the Chanel collection that the inspiration had come from Scotland.
The use of the various materials and fabrics complimented each individual artist involved in this special event.

I was glad to see Yumi Lambert, she is i think one of the best new models, and to have the chance of working here must be inspiring for her career, not to mention Yumi looked adorable in the Scottish garb.

The Chanel Metiers d'Art show collection had plenty to watch as the parade of models made there way around the coutyard of the Linlithgow Palace, some of the model's resembled the Scottish Queen, Mary Queen of Scots, who was born here at Linlithgow Palace, the models in question had been adorned with ruffles.
There were also models wearing tartan which was of course fitting as it is Scotland and as well as the tartan on display the model's on the runway / catwalk also wore an array of knitwear which was i am sure pleasant to wear especially in the weather conditions, snow.
Some models walked in tweed garments which was aptly fitting, as Karl Lagerfeld with Chanel had made it possible for Barrie Knitwear in the Borders, to continue trading as the knitwear company experienced some difficulty and there was talk of liquidation.

So, by-gone Queens, Tweed, Tartan & Ruffles.

A fantastic display presentation by Karl Lagerfeld
Metiers d'Art.

So at the end of the Chanel Metiers d'Art, we have all had a great show of the talent given to us by Karl Lagerfeld and those who have the good fortune to work alongside such a prevalent designer.

Karl Lagerfeld's creations which graced the courtyard of the Scottish Palace were fantastic and the theme was very much inspiring and taken to levels abound with history of Scotland in mind.
There was no escape.
Escaping is futile.

The key theme of the Chanel Metiers d'Art.
Tartan, tweed and treason.

It was clearly evident that Karl Lagerfeld had paid homage to Coco Chanel and her love of Scotland, and it's textiles industry, and mixed it up with some Mary Queen of Scots and tartan, the collaboration was extremely delightful.

The models wore Fair Isle knitted sweaters, Argyle v-neck and Shetland Island jumpers in attractive mixed colours, there were also wool hats and scarf's being worn by some of the model's, where some of the model's wore a splendour of colour other model's wore a more subdued relaxed look in muted whites, with a younger feel, with wool hats and scarves as accessories.

The coats were in a grand gothic style of design to charm and match the occassion and setting marvelously.
Tartan also made a statement in the show whether just as to accentuate a garment in style and design or the complete outfit was a Scottish tartan affair.

Tweed was well displayed on the model's, from long heavy warm coats and jackets made of this tweed which is made not so far in distance from where the show is being held. The quality of the tweed outfits was outstanding and was certainly eyecatching. The colours used were an attack on the senses in a most pleasant way.

The skirts being shown were puffball or boucle made out of wool, most of the models rocked this design with a proudness and attitude fitting the cause, a look as a blast from a cannon of the past but still rockin. Still hear the noise of the one ' o ' clock Edinburgh Castle gun. Big Bang.

Some of the skirts on show were made from the most fabulous of lace and looked so delicate yet full and wholesome, able to withstand the onslaught of the Winter Scottish weather.

For some of the outfit's on show the inspiration for the design and style surely came from the most famous person born at this most apt venue, of Linlithgow Palace, and that person was Mary Queen Of Scots. Although another Elizabeth Queen may have also inspired the creative designer Karl Lagerfeld.

Toward the ending of the Karl Lagerfeld Chanel Metiers d'Art the model's floated around the courtyard of the palace wearing the most regal snow white ivory wool coats, gowns & dresses with embellishments of sorts especially to the bodices, such as feathers and pearls. The attention to detail was unsurpassed as the garments had been finely hand stitched, the hand embroidery was second to none, and with so much attention being payed to the finer detail, this adding the final flair. It took not alot of imagination to imagine a great successor to the throne or indeed a monarch wearing such attire. Fabulously decadent.

The girl models were kept warm with the legwear, as most had tights on some which were decorated in pattern, black & white colour, others were one colour but still heavy embossed with material. Most of the stockings were Argyle or Tartan in style.

The footwear at the show seemed most fitting, as some looked tacky boot style, well worn some might say, others would say sturdy or quite simply comfortable to do any given task or even to do the Highland fling in, but when you have that special item of clothing which feels as comfotable as your skin, if indeed you are happy in your skin, anyway like your favorite garment whatever that maybe, the comfort rules issue.
The boots looked really comfy and hard wearing, suitable for the present weather conditions.

Other shoes were seen on the runway / catwalk, a more formal shoe but still seemed to take comfort as a
most important aspect of the design, no difficult awkward high heel stiletto here.

These boot's were made for walking.

An atmosphere was sure in attendance,
and possibly a kind friendly ghost,
as the palace is rumoured to be haunted.

If you read my November blog then you know who by ?

A fitting tribute to Coco Chanel by Chanel & Karl Lagerfeld.

Models backstage in Linlithgow Palace at the Metiers d'Art.
The hair styles and make up were splendid, a slight punk corn rowed hair style styled by Scottish hairstylist Sam McKnight and the style fitted in with the design and feel of the complete show.
The hair was plaited from the rear, bottom of the head, up, and then the hair being up on top of the head was worked into a Beehive like style, although the hair and head were then embellished with exquisite jewelry.
A bevy of raven red haired beauties graced the courtyard of Linlithgow Palace.

The girl model's plaits were amazing with the most beautiful embelishments.

Please Answer Questions.
What did you think of the venue for this Chanel Metiers d'Art ?

What did you think of the fashion garments at the 2012 Chanel Metiers d'Art ?

Was there any model's which you missed or would liked to of seen at the Chanel Metiers d'Art ?

Personally i thought we would see Daphne Groeneveld, where was she ?

I was surprized though happy to see Yumi Lambert : )

Some celebrity people that is was rumoured would attend disapointed the waiting crowds of celeb spotters, hoping to catch a glimpse of A-List celebrities, but many were left feeling shivers in the cold, gives another meaning to the saying, giving someone the cold shoulder, although on this occasion it was more chilled to the bone, never mind just the shoulder area.

However the people that wanted to be there were, although all be it hand selected, and i am sure alot more people would of watched this exciting event if given a remote chance of an invitation ticket.

On the catwalk / runway at the Chanel Metiers d'Art show were some of the world's top super model's and some exciting new or newish faces to grace the fashion world.

You could call it a Stellar Performance.

As Stella Tennant opens the 2012 Metiers d'Art Chanel show.

Also in good attendance were the fashion paparazzi, editors and journalists from around the globe, most being driven by chauffer drivers in black limousine to the real but outrageous fashion event of Chanel.

Who need's A list celebrities when the most important person, who is Karl Lagerfeld surely was in attendance for all to see and in his element and glory as he presented his newest clothes collection which was on show during the Chanel Metiers d'Art show at Linlithgow Palace, near Edinburgh.
To be able to see the genius who made this historic event happen in Scotland and to be able to view his designs and creations as they floated around the palace sure tops any wanna be celeb spotters dream, or maybe it is just me that takes clothing, clothes, fabric and fashion as well as accessories with a certain interest, after all we all wear clothes and dress nearly each day in our lives and dress according to the situation and place and weather, having choice to choose.
Freedom, we are in Scotland after all.

After the show the party continues and the privilege go to the tented gazebo area next to the loch which is situated by Linlithgow Palace, during the exclusive lavish banquet dinner, bagpipers playing music via, aye, you guessed it, bagpipes. The bagpipers are heard piping the melancholy haunting wailing sound echoing around the spectacular setting.

The covered tent gazebo area is where refreshments await, it is situated beside the palace and next to the loch, which is a magic place, especially considering the circumstances. You can feel the romance of this romantic setting.

So, What was on the dinner menu at the Chanel banquet meal ?
A sumptuous delicious fare assault on the taste buds waits to be admired and enjoyed.

Let the feast begin.

The lavish banquet dinner after the Chanel Metiers d'Art 2012 show was a five course dinner menu which included salmon fish cakes, seared cookie and cockle cannelloni pasta with marinated herring fish, followed by short rib pottage, which is a really nice meat & potato pie like a stew, and with a main course of Assiette of Meat that's an array of meat which actually included rabbit, caramelized hog cheeks, sheep cutlets and also the rich buck deer and fig sausages, not for the sqweamish faint-hearted vegetarian.

When the feasting was finished and the fashionable had rather full tummy tum tums, it was work it off time, and with the assistance of English Folk and Country singer songwriter Jake Bugg, who's musical influence comes from Bob Dylan, Donovan and Jimi Hendrix, now it was time to dance the rest of the evening away, before yep more dancing but this time it could be the turn of Karl Lagerfelds favorite DJ Michel Gaubert who develops the music which is played during the runway / catwalk shows. He maybe on the decks mixing it up with a more up beat and tempo lifting tune which changes the music into club dance floor classic banging tunes.
Yeah Baby !

Really good quote by Karl Lagerfeld.

Thank you to all it may concern, the sung and unsung, for the Chanel Metiers d'Art 2012.

Just before i go,
below we have a photograph of the latest Mad Cow outbreak seen in Scotland.

It was rumoured that Cara Delevinge has been in contact with a wild haggis,
by the look of Cara, the haggis may well have attacked and bitten here.

The cure may be administered in the form of a deep fried mars bar.

I think Karl might have some it that bag.
Karl who ?

Karl Lagerfeld,
What is inside the bag ? Chanel.
